As a former member of the U.S Army Band in Washington D.C., author, illustrator and composer, Jeff Cortazzo, performed in hundreds of outreach concerts to schools across the U.S. His fellow TUSAB musicians in the Army Wind Quintet would often travel to elementary schools with a narrator, performing a live score to a narrated reading of Ferdinand the Bull, complete with projected slides to illustrate to musical score (TRIVIA NOTE: the French horn player uses a foot pedal to advance to the next slide!). This example inspired Jeff to write, illustrate and compose a new generation of live, interactive musical picture books ready to perform to audiences of school children. With your talented college or professional wind quintet, The Five Birds and the Cat Queen is now ready to take flight!
The grade 5+ score and parts are available at brsmusic.net and performing ensembles can request a download file of the book’s illustrations as PowerPoint slides and a copy of the narration script with cues (provided free of charge) by submitting the form below.
